Mulhouse

Mulhouse, another way of enjoying Alsace

With its privileged geographic location on the border of three countries, Mulhouse has sound assets.  The town is also 25 minutes from Basel (Switzerland) and 30 minutes from Freiburg (Germany).   Mulhouse shares a large international airport called EuroAirport with Basel and Freiburg.  It is the only intercontinental hub in North East France.   Mulhouse is also at the crossroads of the railway system that will, in the future, link up the European High Speed Trains: the Rhine-Rhone High Speed Train (TGV), the Rail 2000 between Italy (Milan) and Switzerland (Basel) and the German North South ICE.
The town constantly strives to improve the quality of everyday life for its 112,002 inhabitants.   With a wealth of cultural events, numerous sports facilities and a quality environment, Mulhouse has many sites for strolling around and relaxing.

History

A pioneering city at the time of the industrial revolution in France, Mulhouse has flourished thanks to the Textile, Chemical and Mechanical industry.   From its past, Mulhouse has preserved an impressive heritage:  the historic town which is shown off to advantage, impressive private mansions and the largest technical museum in Europe.

Wine and Culture

The main city of Southern Alsace and located close to the wine road, Mulhouse invites you to enjoy its many cultural treasures.
Discover the pedestrian historic centre, the place de la Réunion with medieval houses and colourful façades, the Rhenish Renaissance-style Town Hall, the Temple Saint-Etienne (Protestant church) with 14th century old stained-glass windows and the most prestigious technical museums in Europe.
Taste the famous Alsatian cuisine in the city's numerous restaurants, not forgetting Alsace wines which offer a very rich palette of flavours.

Murals and Frescoes

Mulhouse´s lively, colourful frescoes illustrate scenes from everyday life as well as the town´s history. A number of murals and frescoes can be found all over the town, tucked away in courtyards and down backstreets.  Don´t miss these fascinating, open-air museums.
