The coast of the Pas de Calais in Northern France is known as the Côte d’Opale and the entire Department is known for startling contrasts. From the charming valleys of the Course and Canche, to the Opal coast and to the natural beauty of Cap Griz Nez and the chic town of Le Touquet.

This part of France, just twenty something miles from England has so much to offer with three national parks, stunning Flemish architecture, all types of water-sports, and for the gourmet, there are a tremendous range of restaurants serving traditional dishes made from regional produce and fresh fish from the sea.

Visit the local shops and supermarkets, you will be amazed at the choice and the selection of locally grown produce .

The Pas de Calais Guide will provide you with all the information you will need to know when visiting the area. We make it easier to discover the very best the Department has to offer with detailed information on 18 towns and villages as well as indicating special places of interest, information on regional foods and local markets. There are links to hotels, golf resorts, restaurants, property sales, cottage rentals, car hire, travel information and a daily weather forecast from the ‘Meteo’.

We are proud to have Regis Lenglos of Mincoin (literally ‘My corner’) as our local travel consultant and photographer. Regis lives and breathes the life of the Côte d’Opale which is clearly expressed in the images shown on our website.

Recommended hotels and golfing

There are two Relais Chateaux hotels in the Pas-de-Calais, the Chateau de Montreuil and the Chateau de Beaulieu near Bethune owned by the superb chef Marc Meurin. Christian Gemain of the Chateau de Montreuil never fails to be the perfect host and has been a favourite of the British for over 20 years.

For golfers, we always suggest staying at Le Manoir in Le Touquet.

Small hotels and chambres d'hôtes

Logis are one of the better guides for chambre d’hotes. Try this delightful small hotel in Wissant – Hotel de La Baie
